Stepping out of my comfort zone

I dress myself in what I think feels comfortable and looks good on me. If you asked me what my style is, I would say basic but put together decently enough (hahaha). Fashion shows are my absolute favourite and I try my best to attend when I can.

The fashion shows that I have previously attended, I would usually get my hair and makeup done with my outfits being pretty much what I call my style. As I write this, I can hear Nick telling me off about how I always play safe and pretty much basic. Ouch! But actually, he is right!

Nick Neilson is a talented hair and makeup artist and his portfolio of work speaks for itself. I asked Nick to do my hair and makeup, and as per his usual, he asked me to send him a picture of what I had in mind to wear. When I did, he was horrified!

He immediately came rushing into Suva to see me and talk some sense into me and a major emphasis on the fact, that I need to step out of my comfort zone, own a new look and just go with it. I agreed because I have started a new phase in my life (this story for another time) and it made perfect sense to be absolutely and completely different with my look. Of course, I felt more pressure on me given that I was officially blogging for Wearing Fiji.

My outfit was designed by Nick himself. A crop top with balloon sleeves, high slit skirt, accessories, hair and makeup. Nick had conceptualised my entire look. I was almost crying when Ejaaz snipped of my hair but once I saw myself with my new hairstyle, I loved it!

It took me 3 hours to get ready and when I saw myself in the mirror, I was even more nervous because I looked completely different. This was the first time I had stepped out of my comfort zone when it comes to fashion and styling. I took a deep breath and told myself to just own it. Nick had to literally yell at me (for the 100th time) and soon I was ready to arrive at GPH for Wearing Fiji.

As soon as I walked in, people were complimenting my look and it felt great to know that I actually pulled it off. To anyone that commented on social media or in person about my look, thank you! You have no idea how nervous and anxious I was. To anyone that thinks my look was not that great, too bad for you coz I loved it!

Dear Nick, you are a gem and super talented. I am glad that I trusted you and your judgement and thank you for pushing me outside of my comfort zone. I am loving my new look and my mom approves!
