Punching health goals

4am-4.30am. This $&#^* alarm goes off every morning and it takes everything in me to get up and out of bed. I love my sleep. Have I ever been a morning person? No. Do I enjoy catching early morning flights? Also no. So, what changed? Well here goes a brief background story….

Me at 78kg in December!

Thanks to family, friends and a couple of strangers on social media, I was politely told that hey you look cute and all chubby. EYEROLL. They meant I was gaining weight fast and I could tell, the bathroom scale was telling me and yet I was in denial. It is so easy to eat and I love food!

When confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Fiji and Suva went on lock down. I thought to myself this is my chance to change my lifestyle. While working from home I changed my diet, completely cut out junk food (occasionally opted for cheese and crackers) and gave up rice. I would eat rice only if I really felt like it, otherwise I no longer own a bag of rice.

I started doing cardio at home, followed by walks on the seawall to jogs and eventually joined box fit classes. I used to go for box fit a couple of years ago, and I always enjoyed it. They offer morning, midday and afternoon classes. I have been trying to exercise or do different activities which is why I wake up at 4am or 4.30am every morning to make it for the 5am classes on alternate days. I also wake up to go for a 3k jog (all while huffing and puffing) but if I miss the morning then I make sure I exercise in the afternoon.

Box fit classes has helped me gain more strength, I am getting back to my ideal weight and its great for my mental health. The team at box fit are easy to train with and are motivating and inspiring as are the other fellow box fit members. Thanks Janelle and Winston, for being so awesome! Look up Box Fit HQ on social media and you will find more details on what all they offer.

I still ask myself, why am I doing this to myself every morning at 4am. But then when I look in the mirror I know exactly why. I feel good and it sets the tone for my day. (and I no longer feel guilty about eating junk as long as I burn it off!).

Happy to be 67kg currently!

I use to weigh 77kg and I am now down to 67kg. I still have a long way to go to get the body that I want and to be back at my ideal weight. It’s not easy for me, I am a foodie! BUT I am determined, and I will keep trying till I reach my goals.

I am not a fitness guru but, if you have been struggling with your health and fitness journey like I have been, well start small and start today. Finding an exercise or fitness class that you enjoy makes it easier. Once you make it a habit, it becomes a lifestyle.
