FJFW has been an enabler for many Fiji designers & models, curating and creating a space that allows their brands to grow, establish and sustain itself. We have 15 years of stories which speak for itself.
The global fashion industry operates holistically providing income earning opportunities for every player involved and ultimately contributing to the economy - there is no reason why the same cannot happen here in our Pacific islands.
Fijian designers are niche, resourceful, community-minded, and always creating for their livelihood.
But there is still huge potential for our fashion industry to grow, showcase our talent and creativity
I believe the key to realising that potential is in community recognition of the benefits we stand to gain.
There is a lot of work to be done and so many of us here have the skills to contribute to building this industry. That is why I am here and excited to be a part of the FJFW team as the brand ambassador.
My interest in fashion is very personal one. Having grown up dark skinned and chubby, I was often made fun of. Thankfully my parents made sure our upbringing was an adventurous one, empowering and instilling in us confidence to love ourselves no matter what. Fashion forward as she was, my mom always ensured I was dressed in crazy outfits and hair clips and clip on earrings and stickers. It steered my interest in and love for fashion.
I sincerely believe that fashion is for everyone, Fashion has no end and FJFW is here for the long haul. Join Ellen, our friends at Palmolive and I at Fiji Fashion Week May 21-28.
