Dining at Kabuki Teppanyaki Restaurant

During my short trip to see my sister and her family, I decided to book myself at the Stamford Plaza for 2 nights.

I love Japanese food and when looking up what the hotel had to offer, I found that Kabuki Teppanyaki Restaurant was conveniently located within the premises and I thought this would be a perfect last night in the city meal.

Upon check-in at the hotel, I asked the gentlemen to make a reservation for one. I dressed up as if I was going on a date! I showed up for the 2nd seating at 7.45 pm. People were already lined up outside and I joined the line to check in with the host to find my table.

I was seated at a table with couples and for the first time ever, I felt like I didn’t belong at this table. I scanned the room and noticed everyone was with friends or family and I was the only solo diner. I ordered champagne and pretended to scroll through my phone, feeling extremely uncomfortable and avoiding questioning glances.

When the waitress appeared, I asked her if they could deliver to the hotel room. She checked and then came back and said they could but also very kindly insisted that I should stay for the show!

Mind you, I have taken myself alone to breakfast and lunch but never did I ever, dress up and go out for dinner alone. I was feeling out of place and I felt that I was getting judged by the other dinners, but then I told myself suck it up and enjoy. Gulps more champagne! Quite reluctantly I told the waitress ok cool, I will stay! Best decision ever!

Soon we were joined by our Chef. Chef Nabodit made a very flamboyant entry with the knives and all and he sure did keep our table entertained and engaged with every person at the table. I went for the set meal which included chicken, lamb, steak, served with miso soup, vegetables and dessert. I could not finish my meal.

I had so much fun and forgot that I was on my own. I managed to catch empty bowls and stack them nicely and I also caught the egg that was tossed at me! The fun banter echoed across the restaurant, and one Chef had his table sing Backstreet Boys.

If you are in Brisbane City and want a fun dining experience, then definitely check out Kabuki Teppanyaki Restaurant. If you are alone like me, definitely go for it, you won’t regret it!

A big Vinaka Vakalevu to the lovely waitress who insisted I stay. You helped me step out of my comfort zone and in a way validated the fact that it is completely fine to have dinner alone at a nice restaurant.

I walked back to my room feeling the food coma hit and feeling extremely proud of myself and now to plan for my next fancy solo dinner date!
