And I was sold! Me and my bff Alsyha were heading to Shangri’la Fijian Resort in my very own hometown Sigatoka.
Ever since COVID-19 happened and with restrictions now somewhat relaxed, I was a bit sceptic about going to a hotel as I heard differing opinions & experiences about service delivery and hospitality. But then I thought, this whole new normal is in fact, very new for everyone and we all deserve a littttttttle bit of leeway to adjust to this.
So we arrived to our temperatures being checked at the entrance and upon arriving at the lobby our temperatures were checked again. We were asked to step on the wet mat and wipe our shoes off and then the dry mat. So we skipped hopped to reception and were very pleasantly attended to.
We had to wait for our room to be ready, but the hotel staff kept us updated on the status. Hotel staff were very attentive and very very hospitable. Finally, we got into our rooms and headed straight to the beach area because that is where everything was going down!
Honestly, hotel staff treated us like royalty and it was nice to have wonderful conversations. We did a around the Yanuca Island tour on a golf cart and it was so much fun.
We learned that Shangrila Fijian Resort has not laid off workers even though many are working on reduced hours. Each employee receives basic food items per month and for those on reduced hours receive a fixed monetary contribution from the resort. That also explained why hotel workers were enjoying their work and being in the moment because they were well looked after.
The resort also offered a FULL buffet breakfast! We ate for about over an hour as we do when out resorting! I heard that other hotels were only offering continental. For me personally, if I go to a resort, I will want to get my money’s worth and yes that includes a full buffet breakfast.
Overall, our stay was pleasant, we were well looked after, the beach, beats and eats event was super-duper fun with us dancing the night away to Inside Out!
Also, I failed at trying to capture everything on camera because we were just too busy having a really really great time!
