A few of my favourite things from Fiji Fashion Week 2024

P.S. That photo is an old one!

I was away in Brisbane and missed Fiji Fashion Week and all things fashion. However, that will not stop me from reviewing what was put out on the runway and I am judging based on social media posts. Oh, and I also missed the launch because we were away hiking that same weekend.

Anyway, before I get into any of it, I must congratulate the Fiji Fashion Week Team for delivering fashion fabulously yet again. Let me start with the launch and how amazing it looked! I will be honest, I was very sceptical about the launch happening on Nukulau Island. I mean, Suva weather and all and then getting people across and all of that. I am sure Ellen’s prayers were heard because from what I saw on socials, the weather was beautiful, the ocean was calm, the champagne was flowing, and the launch was fashion!

Alrighty, here are some of my favourites from Fiji Fashion Week 2024!

Using fashion to raise awareness on domestic abuse and violence. What an impact! It was an honour to be asked to walk for this collection. Thank you Sassy for reaching out and I really really wished I was in country to do that. I thought this was a good concept and inclusive of all shapes and sizes and the collection had an edge to it, giving street style but with the aim of raising awareness.

I loved what I saw because I knew there were a few pieces that I would wear myself. I loved the colour palette and how it seemed to tie into the next piece and then the next. The patterns and styles are definitely in right now and there are a few of her pieces I have my eyes on! Fingers crossed!

TEMESIA.CO by Temesia Tuicaumia

Call me biased BUT I love a good collection that features men’s wear. Trends are changing and so is men’s fashion in Fiji. Slowly but surely albeit it slowly. His take on the sulu and giving it that modern edgy, vogue out here kinda vibe, I love it! I would love to see our men wear or style their sulu’s like this. So I hope our men are taking notes! Heck, I would do androgynous dressing just to wear one of Temesia’s pieces. Also side note to Temesia, please see my message eh? Thanks!

EWOL by Angie

I was screaming looking at these pictures! I mean, it is fierce, bold, and loud, but will I wear something from this? Hell yeah! From what I gather, Angela is not a local designer and is based in Australia. But her work is stunning and if you are like me and enjoy edgy fashion and art, well I think she combines the two so effortlessly! So glad that FJFW included her on the runway this year and I am so bummed that I did not get to see this in person.

RAKO PASEFIKA by Letila Mitchell and Laisiasa Davetawalu

I have a healthy obsession with blue and again I might sound biased but I loved this collection and spotted ready-to-wear off-the-runway pieces. I love the collaborative work and I have been a fan of Laisiasa and appreciate his eye for detail, like detail detail! Love the structure and flair given to the pieces and now to get my hands on a piece!

While those are my favourites, I do think that all the designers that showcased were brilliant and I look forward to attending the next Fiji Fashion Week in 2025 and seeing what our designers deliver!

Till then, stay fashionable! Ciao!
