Plant based café- The Propolis Café

Suva is really turning into a diverse platter of cuisines and I have noticed that we are seeing more plant-based cafes and catering services springing up.

The Propolis Café serves plant based or vegan plant based food and has opened up on Butt Street in Suva. It is located right in the middle of the newly renovated and done up Samson Lee Boutique and the hot bread kitchen.

Judith and I caught up for lunch here since it had been ages given the COVID-19 situation. I missed you Judith! Also guys, Judith is largely responsible for taking my pictures every now and then and I reckon she is a pro photographer!

Ok so about the food, it is reasonably priced and I appreciate that we were immediately told what they don’t have available on the menu board.

You know, sometimes you want to order something off the menu and you are like “can I have this?”

Them: Sorry we don’t have that.

You: “ok well can I have this”

Them: “Sorry we don’t have that”

You “Ok well, how about you tell me what you have then!”

Ok this is basically what happens to me most of the time.

Anyway, so we ordered and or meals were prepped and served. I had the vegan buddha bowl which was massive btw and Judith had the pita bread and it came with a side salad.

The meals are healthy, and the falafel is yummy, I was unable to finish my meal. I think you really need to have an appetite and an acquired taste. If you are someone who doesn’t like full plant-based meals, then you will find this bland.

But all in all, the presentations, meals sizes and flavours are worth trying. Next time you feel unhealthy or just tired from eating fast foods or from the usual food joints, give your taste buds a deserving break and try out food from Propolis Café.

After all, you are what you eat.

Propolis- a red or brown resinous substance collected by honeybees from tree buds, used by them to fill crevices and to fix and varnish honeycombs.
