Cooking Classes at Alliance Francaise de Suva

I have always been wanting to be part of a cooking class, especially for a cuisine that I have limited knowledge of.

Every time the Alliance Francaise De Suva hosted a cooking class I was busy. But this time when a notification popped up that a French cooking class was happening with Chef Christopher Dumas I decided to sign up immediately and it was conveniently happening after working hours.

I invited my friend Alysha to come along and we arrived at the Alliance on time not too sure about how this evening would unfold.

Chef Dumas appeared busy prepping for the evening and we were actually eager beavers asking him numerous questions about the cooking class, ingredients and his favorite dish. He is an extremely patient and talented Chef with so many tips and tricks to share.

Tonight we were learning to cook Beef Strogonoff, Couscous tomatoes and Apple Pie. Beef Strogonoff being one of the many traditional French dishes. Chef Dumas had recipes available for both dishes and soon the cooking class began.

These cooking classes cater for 8-10 people maximum and you get to enjoy the lovely meal with the group later. If you cook extras takeaways are more than welcome.

There was 4 of us for this class and soon Chef Dumas had us chopping, slicing and prepping ingredients for the dishes. Honestly, on a rainy Suva evening what could be better than cooking and eating!

We all had the opportunity to make apple pie which was fun as we had a go at perfecting the base and its shape. The Alliance Francaise De Suva was soon smelling divine in no time.

During the cooking class, Chef Dumas shared various cooking tips and tricks that we had no knowledge of previously. I will not divulge them here, but rather encourage you to attend a class in the future to find out yourself!

After a 3-hour food and fun filled cooking class, we were out on the deck dishing out this yummy meal. We were all starving so we dug right in.

It was a pleasant evening getting to know our fellow cooking classmates and by the end of this night we were happily stuffed.

If you are looking at experiencing something different, I highly recommend checking out events and activities at the Alliance Francaise De Suva. Not only do you get to learn about a different culture but you also end up meeting and making amazing friends.

Charlotte Tassel is the coordinator for all things amazing at the Alliance Francaise De Suva and I am glad to have known her apart from her work. In fact, we were the first to greet her when she arrived fresh into Suva city one crazy evening. (Now this is another story)! But Charlotte, if you are reading this, thank you for always organizing great events.
