A Fresh Fijian Experience!

“Bula! Make yourselves comfortable! As if on a cue, a song filled the air as a farmer working up in the hills belted out a Fijian song and it felt like we had background music as an accompaniment to our eyes and senses. You could also hear coconut scrapping in the distance that made our stomachs grumble slightly.

Fresh, green and serene sights to settle with for a change. We checked out our bures which had a double bed and mosquito net- yes you get to live in a bure true Fijian style. They provide all beddings and you are always welcome to carry your own if you want.

We were invited to the common bure for all our meals and it was the perfect bure to roll around in and just lay about and chill. The food was all fresh from the farm and authentic Fijian meals were served. Now, we all have our preferences when it comes to food but Namosi Eco Retreat can cater for your requests if provided with advance notice. Again, you are welcome to bring your food and drinks if authentic Fijian food is not to your liking. We however, were feasting on the spread laid out for us.

In terms of activities, there is heaps that can be arranged. We opted for “beginner level” activities which included a nonstop yet competitive game of volleyball, swimming in the river and hiking. All in all it was fun just hanging around and connecting with each other.

We all rushed around in the evening to sort ourselves and prep to live without electricity. We all gathered in the common bure and as per custom, a grog session commenced and storytelling about Namosi and its history, including some secret stories (which I will not reveal but leave for you to find our) began. We were also treated to a warm crackling bon fire.

We soon realized that we were prepared to sleep like babies and headed off to our bures. We dozed off to the occasional scurry of a mouse in the roofs, water flowing in the river, the breeze and rustle of the lush greenery we were surrounded in.

For the experience that Namosi Eco Retreat offers, I would rate it 5 stars and I recommend that this place be visited if not often, but at least once to experience true Fijian lifestyle in the most fulfilling way.
