Cookies- Hand painted with love!

I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a friend post hand painted cookie batches themed around Valentines Day for $10 a pack! I was excited because firstly, i have a big sugar heart and secondly, i am always keen on buying locally made products and supporting local businesses as such. So i ordered some packs for us. Not only did the cookies come packaged nicely, it tasted yummy! In fact, it took me a while to bite into a cookie because it was just too pretty and cute to actually eat!

Anyway, i was wanting to know more about this cool idea. Stephanie Datt is the person behind this wonderful idea along with her sisters.

How did this idea come about?

I come from an art loving family. My sisters project theirs on canvas, through makeup, music and I do it through baking. Anyway, my sister and I were mucking around in the Kitchen one rainy Saturday. I was baking and she brought out her food paints and we started playing, had a moment, and the rest is sugar history.

We were wanting to collab for ages but my busy schedule (pastry chef) and hers (freelance artist) just didn't match. I suppose we recognized that now more than ever there is a market for pretty things and an appreciation for handmade goods, it just kind of dropped itself on us. Also we really like cookies lol.

What was the motivation for this?

We have 6 sons between us so teaching the kids to fully utilize their talents was also a big factor. My sister's youngest son lives with autism and ADHD and needs her constantly, so there's even more reason for us to push and work harder. We'd also like to get a children's book out and create more awareness for people living with autism in Fiji.

At the end of the day if we fall flat on our faces at least we'll know we tried. Besides, the boys will be happy with having leftover stock lol.

And the response received for this Valentines Day cookies?

We actually had an overwhelming response, because we have such a great support network. So there were FB, Instagram and Twitter shares. Someone was bloody awesome and made us a video and we ended up having to close order books because we hadn't slept in two days! Still totally worth it!

What's next?

Our next big tackle is Easter, we'd love to do more themed birthdays and wedding favors and there goes more sleepless weekends!

Well folks, keep an eye out to get your hands on amazing handmade goodies. You can do this by checking out their page on Instagram and Facebook @Beachpleasefiji.
